Thermoplastic Polyolefin (usually shortened to TPO) is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane made from a mix of polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber that have been polymerized together. It’s a fast-growing roofing material that has a long list of benefits for both residential and commercial uses.
It’s Environmentally Friendly
TPO is a fantastic choice for homes and business in areas that require air-conditioning in the summer months since it reflects UV radiation and helps to keep the building cooler while cutting down on energy bills, carbon emissions, and the ‘urban heat island’ effect. It also contains no hazardous or toxic chemicals and is fully recyclable.
It’s Easy to Install and Low-Maintenance
TPO can be installed rapidly due to its flexibility and the fact that the membranes are often mechanically attached or otherwise fully adhered to the underlying cover board or insulation. TPO requires very little maintenance in order to remain effective for years after installation. The large size of the membrane sheets and rolls also help to cut down on labor cost by reducing the number of seams which have to be sealed.
It’s Flexible, Durable, and Versatile
TPO membranes are extremely resistant to tearing, damage from impacts, and punctures. It is available in three different thicknesses and can be used on both low and high-slope roofs. The membranes can also be heated and reshaped multiple times, allowing it to be used for detail work and touch-ups.
